Tis the season for Martha’s Task Christmas in July
Red and green decorations are popping up at Martha’s Task where preparations are underway for Christmas in July.
A popular annual event for the Bartlesville nonprofit, Christmas in July provides a chance for Martha’s Task visitors to forget about the Oklahoma temperatures outside and bask in a winter holiday atmosphere where holiday carols are playing, the lighted tree is glowing and yummy treats are ready to eat. This year’s Christmas in July event will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 23 at Martha’s Task, 718 S. Johnstone Ave.
“We are excited to see new and old friends visiting Martha’s Task this year for one of our favorite events,” Executive Director Laura Walton said. “We always have people coming through the doors with a ‘Merry Christmas’ greeting for us and an enthusiasm for shopping for holiday merchandise and everyday items. This is an especially important event for our seamstresses as they get to keep all of the profits from each sale made, so the gifts our shoppers buy are truly making a difference in the community.”
Martha’s Task has been serving the Bartlesville area for 26 years having been incorporated as a nonprofit in June 2000. The organization dedicated to helping low income women improve their lives through sewing and crafts provides seamstress training for clients living at the federal poverty level and below. The women are paid for their training in sewing classes and also receive 100 percent of the profits from each item they sell at Martha’s Task store. The nonprofit’s emergency assistance program allows women in need to work for three hours for an immediate need, such as a bill payment, rent or prescription, and walk out with cash in hand. Emergency assistance clients each week work on simple crafts, which also are sold in Martha’s Task store.
