The Bartlesville Area History Museum is proud to announce the unveiling of a permanent plaque honoring long term Bartlesville resident, Viola Fletcher, the oldest known survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. This special event recognizes Viola Fletcher’s enduring legacy as a witness to one of the most significant and painful moments in Oklahoma history. Her story stands as a testament to resilience, remembrance, and the importance of preserving firsthand accounts for future generations.

The unveiling ceremony will include remarks from Bartlesville Mayor Jim Curd and City Manager Mike Bailey. Light refreshments will be provided, and members of the public are warmly invited to attend and participate in this meaningful moment of reflection and recognition.

The installation of this permanent plaque reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to honoring history, amplifying important voices, and ensuring that the lessons of the past remain present in the community.
