CALL FOR ENTRIES: BAA Art Show Goes Virtual

Posted: August 14, 2020

2020 has become the year of virtual events. The postponed Bartlesville Art Association (BAA) Spring Art Show, now the “Un” Spring Art Show, will go online to the public this September.

The Art Show, now in it’s 67th year, will award $1700 in cash prizes to artists. World renowned watercolorist Lian Quan Zhen will judge the works. The show will go “live” online on Friday, September 11 at 7 PM along with a virtual Zoom presentation, and winning entries in 20 categories will go on to be displayed at Price Tower Gallery from September 14 - 30, 2020. Many works will be available for sale.

“We have such wonderful talent to share with our community that we chose to upload the art show for everyone to browse online”, explained BAA president, Kathleen Rutledge. “As in the past, it will be a juried show with awards and provide the opportunity to purchase works of art”.

The Price Tower will host the small physical exhibit for the 20 awarded artworks Sept. 14 - 30. The show will be open to the public during regular gallery hours and admission is free. The online art show will be available for viewing at bartlesvilleartassociation.org until December 31, 2020.

Artists, both BAA members and non-members, are invited to submit up to two works of their original art. Submission fee for each piece is $15 for members, $20 for non-members. There is no fee for student entries.

All Fine Art Media will be accepted, including but not limited to the following:  Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Other Water Media such as Ink, Dry Media such as Pastel, Drawing Media, Mixed Media, Graphic Design, Printmaking, Digital Art, Photography, Sculpture Media, Assemblage, Pottery and Clay work, Fiber Art such as Weaving and Basketry, and Jewelry.

Artists may find entry forms online at bartlesvilleartassociation.org. Entries will be accepted online, via postal mail, or email. Photographs of entries will also be accepted online, and if artists need help with photographing their artwork BAA volunteers will be glad to help with that. Steven Graham, BAA board member and art teacher at Kane Elementary, has prepared a helpful YouTube video on how to photograph art at https://rb.gy/brcemi. Volunteers will also help artists photograph their work or complete the entry forms by calling 918-914-1384 to schedule an appointment on Thursday, August 27 or Friday, August 28 at the BAA Art Center.

Competition is open to adults and student artists 9th grade and older. Students must present proof that they are in grades 9-12 when submitting artwork. Students have the opportunity to compete in all categories.

Show Judge Lian Quan Zhen, a popular artist and author of watercolor and Chinese painting art books, will be teaching a watercolor class on “Color Pouring and Paint What You Want to See” from September 2, 3 and 4 from 10 AM until 5 PM at BAA via Zoom. Registration is $250 for members, $270 for non-members. More information can be found at the BAA web site.
