BSO ANNOUNCES NEW CONCERTMASTER

Posted: October 04, 2018

The Bartlesville Symphony is pleased to announce the appointment of longtime Tulsa performer and teacher Sheri Scales-Neubauer as Concertmaster.

Retiring Concertmaster David Kazmierzak has served in this position since 1991, and recently requested the opportunity to cut back on those responsibilities. He will continue to perform with the symphony as Principal Second Violin.

Ms. Neubauer comes to Bartlesville with a long list of accolades and accomplishments. A native of Amarillo, TX, Sheri received two degrees from West Texas A&M, and studied further at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with NY Philharmonic Concertmaster (and former BSO soloist) Glen Dicterow.

Moving to Tulsa with her husband in 1996, she performed with the Tulsa Philharmonic and went on to also teach at Tulsa University, Oral Roberts University and the Barthelmes Conservatory among others.

She has been a member of the Tulsa Symphony since its founding 11 years ago, serving in several key roles including Principal Second Violin and First Violin in the TSO String Quartet.

She also performs with the Tulsa Ballet Orchestra and is Principal Second Violin of the Tulsa Opera Orchestra.

Sheri has played in many regional orchestras, including the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, New Mexico Symphony and many more.

She has performed as soloist in recital as well as with many orchestras, including the National Repertory Orchestra and the Amarillo Symphony.

Currently, Sheri has added public school teaching to her long list of duties, working in underserved programs at Tisdale Fine Arts Academy, Hawthorne Elementary, and Hale Junior and Senior High Schools.

As part of her efforts, she has instituted a two-week summer orchestra camp at Hale Junior High School for students in grades 5 through 12, partnering with area performing groups and teachers to provide free instrumental instruction.

“We feel so fortunate to have Sheri join us in the BSO,” commented conductor Lauren Green. “Sheri brings that rare combination of musical excellence and joyful personality that is key to the leadership of a professional/community orchestra like the BSO.”

“We have been spoiled for nearly 30 years with David’s brilliant playing and ingratiating leadership. He and I are both pleased that Sheri is so eager to join us.”

Sheri performed as Concertmaster in the BSO’s recent concert for 1200 regional fifth graders on September 12, and will make her regular season debut in that chair on the BSO’s upcoming Big Band Bonanza concert on October 13, featuring Tulsa pianist Barron Ryan.
