OKM’s Oktoberfest: Experience a German Folk Festival

Posted: October 04, 2017

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Dress up in your favorite Bavarian folklore clothes and head to OKM’s Oktoberfest from 4 to 11 p.m. Oct. 6 outside on Dewey Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets in downtown Bartlesville. Expect to find all the flair and flavors of the traditional German festival.

“OKM is very excited this year to move our Oktoberfest celebration outdoors,” said Mary Lynn Mihm, OKM Music’s board chairwoman. “We believe this will create a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy wonderful German music, food, dancing, games, and lots of children’s activities.”

Several food trucks will be on hand serving authentic German food as well as hot dogs, cupcakes and strudel. Cocktails, wine and a beer garden are among the offerings.

Revelers can dance to live polka music presented by German-American Society of Tulsa’s Blaskapelle as well as Mach Schnell. GAST’s folk dancers will join in the fun with authentic German dancing.

Besides a costume contest, guests can take photos behind a Bavarian cutout or try the games, including a stein-holding competition and Hammerschlagen.

Plenty of children’s activities will keep the youngsters entertained. They can play Torwand, which is a traditional soccer game; decorate cookies; join the kazoo parade; and get their faces painted. Magician-ventriloquist Jeff Cauthen will perform twice during the evening.

Local vendors will sell specialty items such as honey, German steins, apple butter, candles and more. Don’t forget to buy $10 raffle tickets for an opportunity to win $ 1,000 in cash.

For advance ticket information, visit www.okmmusic.org. Tickets (adult, $10; student, $5) will be available at the gate. To reserve a corporate or group table, call 918-336-9900.

OKM’s Oktoberfest will celebrate outside under a tent on Oct. 6 in downtown Bartlesville.
