
OKM’s ‘Especially for Kids Festival’ will run from June 2-8
Just for our young Patrons, the OKM’s ‘Especially for Kids Festival’ will run from June 2-8.
This very special seven day Festival has become an integral part of the annual OKM Music Festival held each June.
Enjoy learning the history and art of Hoop dancing and Choctaw music with Michael Loman. Children will watch and participate in this special Choctaw Native American experience, Friday, June 2, 6:00 p.m. at Sooner Park Band Shell, during the kick off night of SunFest.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Join us for a whimsical Mary Poppins tea party filled with grand games, splendid tea sandwiches, wonderful pastries, delicious “sugar cookie” tea, superb scones and jam, all prepared by Melody’s Creative Cuisine and a glorious harp concert featuring Lorelei Barton. And of course, it wouldn’t be a tea party without the practically perfect in every way, Mary Poppins. This event will take place on Saturday, June 3, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and is a ticketed event.
Reservations are required and seating is limited. The event is free. On Sunday, June 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Boots & Brushes young patrons will enjoy an exciting art and music immersion experience where music creates colors and art makes sounds. Children will learn about how music inspires creativity and art is noisy. Children will enjoy having a story read about the famous abstract painter, Vasya Kandinsky, and his love of painting and music. Also, on June 3 at 3:00 p.m. at Boots & Brushes, young Patrons will enjoy this art and music immersion through the blending of one’s senses. Listen to the music and paint what you feel and see. They will listen to two different pieces of music and will explore blending the two art forms in creating an expressionist painting.
Get ready to play Boogie Bingo on Sunday, June 4, at 6:00 p.m. right from the comfort of your own home. This fun twist on Bingo features music categories from different musical genres and eras. Our family friendly, curated playlists, will have you singing, dancing and daubing to the music. Prizes will be given for each round and all families playing will be entered in for a grand prize drawing. Boogie Bingo will be aired live on Bartlesville Radio. Families should pick up cards and pizza vouchers from the OKM Music Office, May 29-31 and June 1-2 between the hours of 9 - 5 PM.
On June 5, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bartlesville Library, come join us for a hilarious story of a concert that gets out of hand when the animals at the neighboring zoo decide to storm the stage and play the instruments themselves. You won’t be able to stop laughing during this story. Every child will receive a copy of the book, “Never Play Music Right Next to the Zoo” as well as a special zoo friend to take home.

Later on June 5, at 1:00 p.m., at the Bartlesville Library join Moses and his school friends for a special concert. Listen to Ms. Laura read the story of “Moses Goes to A Concert”. Moses is deaf. He cannot hear music in the same manner in which most of us listen to music. Come learn how Moses and his friends enjoy the concert using other senses. Children will learn about sign language and how hearing impaired children can listen to music through other senses. Every child will receive a copy of “Moses Goes to a Concert.”
Finally, wrap up Monday, June 5, for a wonderful story called “88 Instruments” to be read by Ms. Laura at the Bartlesville Public Library. This delightful story is about a young boy who cannot make his mind up about what instrument he wants to play. Every child will receive a special musical instrument as well as the book, “88 Instruments.”
On June 6, at 10:00 a.m., at the Bartlesville Public Library, enjoy this wonderful story about animal musicians and the amazing sounds each instrument makes when played. Each child will receive “Meet the Orchestra” as well as a fun coloring book about musical instruments.
In the afternoon of June 6, at 1:00 p.m. join us for a heartfelt story about the friendship between a man and his fiddle playing dog at the Bartlesville Public Library. Meet an all-animal band, with a piano playing bear. Children attending will also learn about the fiddle and the beautiful and fun sounds of a fiddle. Each child will receive the book “The Bear, The Piano, The Dog and The Fiddle” as well as a special instrument.
The wonderful StoneLion Puppets will present the “Toy Box” at Hardesty Library, Conner’s Cove, Tulsa, OK at 7:00 p.m. on June 6. Stuffed bears, dancing rabbits, jack-in-the–boxes, swinging sock-monkeys, space aliens and more. A journey through memories as these delightful trick marionettes will remind you of childhood days. Includes audience participation and just plain fun. This show will also be presented at 10:00 a.m. on June 7 at Father Lynch Hall, Bartlesville, OK.
Later on June 7 at 1:00 p.m., join Felicia Flash, wildlife photographer, and her side-kick, Karma the elephant introduce you to dozens of endangered species and wildlife from across the globe in this cabaret musical extravaganza again at Father Lynch Hall, Bartlesville, OK. Orangutans, Javanese tigers, binturongs and gibbons swing to the beat of the music while hornbills and dog-faced fruit bats fly into the audience. This show is part of StoneLion’s animal conservation series, which has played since 1986 in zoos across the country.
On June 8, join OKM Music for an amazing “mega star” experience on center stage at The Center. Dance and sing your heart out to your favorite songs played live on piano by OKM Music’s own Diva and Mega Star, Jecelle Dobson.
The Especially for Kids last official event will be “A Time for Magic” with Jim Green on June 8, 5:00 p.m. at Unity Square. Join OKM Music on stage for a “grandparent” approved
show filled with laughter, surprises, and of course fun tricks that will leave you asking “how did he do that?”
The OKM Music Especially for Kid’s passport will be available for pickup at the OKM Music office, the Bartlesville Public Library and The Center. The passports contain the Festival schedule as well as fun activities and artist information.
The Especially for Kids Series is free to the public with the exception of the Mary Poppin’s Tea which is a ticketed event. Seating for the children’s events are limited and is available on a first come first serve basis through reservations at okmmusic.org or www.bartlesvillecenter.com.
