OKM MUSIC: An Evening of Jazz

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — OKM invites you to the Bartlesville Community Center (300 SE Adams Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74003)  for an evening of jazz with Catherine Russell on Saturday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m. Come melt your blues away as you listen to the award-winning, New York vocalist. There will also be three FREE Showcase acts: Rose Rock String Quartet (10:00 a.m.,) The Ad Lib Singers (12:00 p.m.,) and the Opus 76 Quartet (4:00 p.m.) at the Bartlesville Community Center inside Community Hall.

Catherine Russell was born into musical royalty with her father, Luis Russell who was a legendary musician, composer, bandleader, and music director of Louis Armstrong. Her mother, Carline Ray was a pioneering vocalist and musician who performed with International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Mary Lou Williams, and Sy Oliver. Russell has received universal acclaim performing on four continents and touring with Carrie Smith, Steely Dan, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Michael Feinstein, Levon Helm, Toshi Reagon and Rosanne Cash, among others, appearing on over 200 albums. Russell was a guest on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien”, PBS-TV’s “Tavis Smiley Show”, and NPR’s “Fresh Air”, “Piano Jazz”, “Mountain Stage”, “World Café”, and “Jazz Night in America.” She has won a prestigious German Record Critics’ Award and a Living Blues magazine critics’ poll, Prix du Jazz Vocal (Vocal Album of the Year,) Bistro Award, and many more including a Grammy Award as a featured artist on the soundtrack album from the HBO-TV series, Boardwalk Empire. Her repertoire features a lineup of gems from the 1920s through the present; vital interpretations, bursting with soul and humor. With an off-the-beaten-path song collection, sparkling acoustic swing, and a stunning vocal approach, Catherine Russell has joined the ranks of the greatest interpreters and performers of American Popular Song.
