A Cappella Craze and Arrangements “BY EAR”!!! Hosted by Musical Research Society

Monday, February 11, 2019

Musical Research Society is excited to invite you to a presentation by Dr. Jonathan Stewart about his experiences with and study of, the Branson group SIX. The presentation will include video performances and examples of their work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWfxaHzzt78

Have you found yourself enjoying the current craze of “contemporary a cappella” with groups like "Pentatonix", "Straight No Chaser" and "Home Free"?

If you start to study these groups and others, you will find that although some groups have arrangers who create written arrangements, many a cappella groups put together full blown a cappella arrangements “by ear.”

One of these groups is SIX, a successful a cappella group that performs out of Branson, Missouri. Upon discovering that the vast majority of SIX’s a cappella cover arrangements were done entirely “by ear,” Dr. Stewart decided to discover exactly how that works. What he discovered was nothing short of amazing!

Through what Dr. Stewart terms as specific functions of Fluid Leadership and Aural Arranging, SIX puts together intricate a cappella arrangements as efficiently as many groups sight read already written scores.

Dr. Stewart’s presentation will begin at 12 noon, Monday, February 11, in the Women’s Club Building, 601 S Shawnee, downtown Bartlesville.  Refreshments provided, or bring your own lunch and join the journey!

All are invited and admission is free to the public.
