BAHM to host Prairie Song documentary for Movie Mondays

Posted: February 27, 2018

The recently released documentary “Prairie Song – Journey Back to the Old West at Prairie Song” will be the focus for three consecutive Bartlesville Area History Museum’s Movie Mondays.

Prairie Song is an 1800s pioneer village museum located approximately 5 miles east of Dewey.

The series will begin March 5 and refreshments will be served. Remaining episodes will be shown on March 12 and March 19. Showings will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m.

According to BAHM Coordinator Jo Crabtree, special guests for part one of the film will include, Marilyn and Kenneth Tate, owner/operators of Prairie Song, as well as Kathy Rogers, of CableOne Advertising, who serves as contributor to production work on the movie, and local residents Joel Rabin, producer contributor and Bill Woodard, a relative of the Tate’s.

“In 1982, Kenneth and Marilyn Tate shared a dream of a simple cabin in the countryside,” said Rabin. “Their passion for preservation of history has since grown into ‘Prairie Song’ − a replica old west village that tells the story of Oklahoma in a very real way.”

The movie was filmed on locations last year, Rabin said.

“The film personifies the life and times of the story of Oklahoma through artifacts and the re-created life-style of generations long gone.” Crabtree said. “That of those who lived and built the state based on a standard, a dream to overcome adversities of nature, seasons, and the drive to survive whatever Oklahoma served to them from day to day living.

“The museum is very fortunate to have the opportunity to show this important documentation of not only current history, but a current perspective of an actual historical view of that culture long gone from the history of Oklahoma and Washington County.”

BAHM is a family friendly facility on the fifth floor of City Hall, located at 401 S. Johnstone Ave., where admission is free and donations are always welcome.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 918-338-4294.
