Play In Bartlesville
Biplane Museum and Complex at Frank Phillips Field
Sunset & Will Rogers
This complex was dedicated June 6, 1997 at the opening ceremonies of Biplane Expo ‘97. The Memorial Plaza was setup to commemorate the Biplane Association’s tragic loss at the 1996 Expo and to honor departed loved ones within the biplane community. The sculptures to the right of the monolith were created by artist Sandra Van Zandt of Talala, Oklahoma and are entitled “Aviation Futures.” The statues, a young boy and girl and their dog are depicted as dreaming about their aviation future.
Exhibitions of photographic and lithographic displays show the pectoral history of the biplane’s development and the Biplane Expo. Featured exhibitions are Jerry Poppenhouse’s photographic collection donated by Phillips Petroleum Company, Charles H. Hubbell’s lithographs depicting the evolution of the biplane and, of course, the actual biplane exhibit. Each year a series of different planes are loaned to the museum for the Expo weekend. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these historic planes in flight – come share in the excitement of the Biplane Expo.
